First Christmas layout of the year! It was only 40'C with the humidity this week so seems appropriate to work on Christmas layouts. Bev Code made the latest sketch at Sketches In Thyme so I hope you will try it out. It is super easy to work with and can go as simple or detailed as you like.

Winter Wonders Layout

Not sure why I'm on a Christmas kick when I look forward to summer during our awful winters. I think all the challenges lately have worked well with Christmas and I haven't used those kits for a long time so it's like new again! Here is a picture of my daughter at three weeks old and my sister-in-law. I just love when pictures turn out perfectly like this one.

 

I really wanted to try the challenge at Pinkfresh Studios this month. It is a recipe challenge and I haven't done a lot of those. I'm so glad I did because I never would've thought to combine some of these elements and I like how this turned out. Here is the recipe from their site:



You will have to create a layout/card/any kind of project with these elements...

1. Only 2 patterned papers  (I used the background and it's B side plus one more paper).

(you can use the double-sided ones, that makes 4 pattern already)

2. Puffy Stickers (the deer and one tree are stickers as well as the ones on the picture)

3. Stamps (snowflakes, date and title before embossing).

4. Mist/Watercolor (mist)

5. Black & White photo.

I used this sketch from Let's Get Sketchy because I figured I could get away with using only 2 patterned papers with this!

Celebrate 2014 Layout

This was one of those layouts that came together one piece at a time. I had a sketch, cut file and inspiration picture but no real plan. This usually frustrates me as I plan most things in advance but this time the final product turned out better than I expected.

 

I began with the sketch from Paper Issues and the free cut file from their store. It has the holes for string art already punched so all I had to do was size the file and cut.

 

 

I used the challenge from Creative Embellishments as inspiration so I decided the star would be red to match the picture.

 

 

Originally, I had chosen a completely different paper kit but the picture that matched the best was Christmassy so I switched to Fancy Pants Oh Deer. The Christmas theme worked well with the stars and I chose a picture of my daughter on her birthday that had balloons on the bag like the inspiration pic:) I painted the title, glued some buttons and cord and splatted some gold and finished! It sounds fast but I actually agonized over every step!

Happy Day Layout

How awesome is the Simple Stories Sunshine and Happiness collection?! I just got it so I had to use it right away. The dark pink is the colour of most of my daughter's shirts so I will have no problem matching pictures plus I can scrap my lake pictures. I used two lake pictures from last summer where the kids were painting rocks and birdhouses.

 

I was inspired by the sketch at Grand Diva's Creative Corner because it has that large strip down the left side. This kit comes with some ready made strips like that so I thought this would be a good place to start.

 

 

This layout started well but then I think I ran into the problem of having too many awesome papers and embellishments to choose from and I changed my design a million times. I debated putting the title "Painting Rocks" but I couldn't find alpha's that looked right and the pictures have that dead space in the middle so I went with the premade title in the kit. I sprayed some mists and because I used so many buttons, I decided not to make the two stitched circles in the sketch. The buttons came from the Paper Issues Take 5 challenge. I used:

- white

- blue

- buttons

- patterned paper

- stripes

 

I also made sure to add a paperclip (or two!) so I could participate in Rochelle Spears's This or That challenge.

 



Overall, I'm pleased with how this turned out!

Mulan Layout

This picture of my daughter and Mulan turned out so well, I knew I wanted to make sure it was scrapped in a special way. I love how this turned out!

This layout began with the sketch from Creative Scrappers and the cut file from Just Nick.

 

The name of the cut file is Chopsticks which made me think of my Mulan picture. I remembered having this DCWV paper sitting in my bin of random papers and found a random pink sheet to go behind. When looking for the background paper I came across the cherry blossom paper and got to work fussy cutting. Then I tried to think of other items I could add. I found the fan PNG file here. The title font I found here. The scroll I made by distressing some white paper. I painted two toothpicks with brown paint. Then I found the larger beads and added a tiny bead on the end of each toothpick. I also found the lantern sticker and had a few others but I didn't want to have competing colors or objects.

 

I'm also playing along with the Paper Issues Gleam Catchers challenge. I have a sparkly title, gems, beads and date stickers.

 

I also am joining The Paper Girls for their travel challenge.

Yeehaw Layout

So I'm still working my way through last summer's vacation photos. Here is one of LEGOLAND. I just love how the flowers outline the picture so I've been waiting for the perfect sketch to showcase some flowers.

 

I used the sketch from the Midweek Mojo Orchid #4. I was too busy the week it came out but made this today so I could be a part of the series finale.

 

 

I chose my picture based on the Paper Girls Challenge #108: Vacation/Trip/Travel.
